After seven transformative years leading Scythe Robotics, I’ve decided it’s time to transition leadership as the company enters its next phase of growth.
We founded Scythe in 2018 with the goal to multiply humanity’s ability to care for the planet. Today, our all-electric M.52 mowers are delivering on that mission — empowering landscape crews across the country to finish jobs faster, breathe cleaner air, and attract new talent. And with significant growth ahead, I’m confident this is the right moment to bring in new leadership focused on scaling that impact.
The Time for Transition
Scythe is better prepared than ever for the opportunities ahead. Our seventh-generation M.52 is cutting turf from coast to coast with industry-leading uptime and autonomy, and the work we have in the pipeline will continue to raise the bar for the industry.
As we ramp into a new phase of commercialization, operational excellence becomes the name of the game, and the right leadership with a passion for these challenges will accelerate Scythe through this exciting stage. The company has grown from a conversation over a beer in Boulder to more than 80 amazing Scythers across engineering, operations, customer success, and more – all ready to take on the challenge and scale what we’ve built.
We’ve also proven both the technology and the market. Now, the focus shifts to scaling production, streamlining our supply chain, and expanding service infrastructure to meet the growing demand. This next chapter calls for leadership grounded in operational expertise and built for execution at industrial scale.
Brian Merkel, our Chief Operating Officer, will step in as interim CEO, effective immediately. He’s been at the center of Scythe’s strategy for the past three years, and his deep experience in manufacturing and customer operations makes him the right person to lead us through this transition.
Looking Ahead
Scythe’s mission—to multiply humanity’s ability to care for the planet—has never felt more relevant. With the momentum we’ve built and the leadership we’re bringing in, I’m confident the company is positioned for even greater impact in the years ahead.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and grateful to the team, customers, and partners who made it possible. Scythe wouldn’t be where it is today without your belief, hard work, and commitment.
As for me, I’ll continue to support the team however I can while exploring new opportunities at the intersection of climate tech and robotics. I’m inspired by all the advances that make our planet healthier with technology, and I’ll be cheering Scythe on every step of the way in its pursuit of the same vision.
