Introducing Task Sequences: Get Mow + Mow + Mow Done

Written by Scythe Field Team | Jun 8, 2025 12:48:37 AM

With M.52 mowing autonomously, you’re able to get in the groove and accomplish more across the property. And thanks to our latest feature, M.52 will let you stay in that groove for longer and become even more productive.

Introducing Task Sequences: M.52 can now complete multiple Mow Zones in a row, moving between each on its own without interrupting your workflow.

LESS MOVING. MORE MOWING.

Using the Scythe mobile app, you’ll connect overlapping and nearby Mow Zones for M.52 to mow in order, with the ability to customize Task settings – including mow pattern, deck height, blade speed, and more – for each specific Zone. This means less moving for the crew and more mowing for M.52.

Task Sequences can also be saved to use every time you’re at that property and are available to all operators on your crew.

We put additional measures in place to make sure that M.52 drives safely between Mow Zones. It moves at a slower speed than normal and plays a sonar ping so pedestrians notice it but are not startled. The deck is raised to 6-inches to avoid hitting tree roots or other low-profile obstacles, and it of course still stops for unexpected people, just like it does when it’s mowing.

Task Sequences are rolling out now to pilot customers and will be available to all M.52 operators later this season. Download the latest version of the Scythe mobile app now so you can stay focused on all your work while M.52 goes from Zone to Zone all on its own.

HOW IT WORKS

Task Sequences enable M.52 to move autonomously from Mow Zone to Mow Zone throughout a jobsite. You can connect overlapping Mow Zones as well as nearby Mow Zones using a new type of Zone – a Bridge Zone.

  • A Mow Zone is a defined area that you want M.52 to mow
  • A No-Go Zone is an area you don’t want M.52 to go
  • A Bridge Zone is a defined area connecting Mow Zones that is safe for M.52 to drive through on its own but that will not be mowed

For a successful Task Sequence, you’ll need to make sure:

  • All Mow Zones and Bridge Zones are over natural ground
    • Do not cross roads, sidewalks, walking trails, or other areas designed for people or cars
  • All Mow Zones and Bridge Zones in the Task Sequence are at least 12 feet wide, giving M.52 the space it needs to safely drive around any obstacles it comes across as it goes between Zones
  • M.52 is inside the Mow Zone that will be used for the first Task of the Sequence, and not inside any No-Go Zones
  • Your M.52 and Scythe mobile app are running the latest software

Detailed instructions for creating and mowing with Task Sequences are below, but your Scythe Account Manager can also help train your team on this new feature.

MOWING WITH TASK SEQUENCES

Create Zones for the Task Sequence with M.52

Task Sequences start with Zones. Create all the Mow Zones and any necessary Bridge Zones  for your Sequence using M.52. You can also use existing Mow Zones in your sequence. Check out the Scythe mobile app to see all of your available Zones.

For Zones to be connected in a Sequence, they need an overlapping area that is at least 12 feet wide. Use the control panel on M.52  as you normally would to create new Mow Zones for your Task Sequence, making sure they overlap enough with the Zones you’ll connect them to.

To connect Mow Zones that are next to each other through an area you don’t want to mow, you’ll need to create a Bridge Zone.

All Bridge Zones start as Mow Zones. Create a Zone that overlaps the two Mow Zones you want to connect using M.52. When you build the Task Sequence in your Scythe mobile app, you can change any Mow Zone into a Bridge Zone so M.52 drives through it with the blades off.

Once you’ve created all the Zones, place M.52 inside the Mow Zone that will be the first in your Task Sequence.

Build the Task Sequence

By building a Task Sequence, you’ll assign multiple Mow Zones for M.52 to complete in order using the Scythe mobile app.

From the Properties tab, switch to the Task Sequences and tap New Sequence. Pick the first Mow Zone for the Sequence and click Add Zone. Adjust the Task Settings for that Mow Zone as needed and click Apply Task Settings. Continue selecting the rest of the Zones for the Sequence in the same way.

If there is a Zone that you only want M.52 to drive through and not mow, click Add Zone and switch the toggle from Mow to Bridge. Tap Apply Task Settings to add the Bridge Zone to your Sequence.

Once your Task Sequence is built, you’ll see the Tasks listed in order with a summary of each of their settings. You can change the settings of an individual Task by clicking on it, making the necessary updates, and then tapping Apply Task Settings again.

Save your Task Sequence to use again in the future. Tap Enter Sequence Name, type in what you’d like to name that Sequence, and click Done. After you tap Save, you and the rest of your crew will see that Sequence and any others at that property under the Task Sequences tab.

Send the Sequence to M.52

Once the Sequence is created, send it to the M.52 that is inside the first Zone. If you’ve just finished setting up a Sequence, click Send to M.52 to start mowing. If you want to mow a saved Sequence from a previous visit, you’ll find it in the Properties tab under Task Sequences

Once you’ve sent the Task Sequence to M.52 and confirmed the Mow Zones are safe for autonomous mowing, pull or toggle the PTO on the machine. M.52 will start mowing through the Sequence, allowing you to stay focused on your own tasks.

Follow M.52 throughout the Sequence by checking the progress bar in the app, where you can see how much time M.52 has left on its current Mow Zone and the entire Sequence. When M.52 is done with the Task Sequence, it will park itself in the last Zone of the Task Sequence.
